Why would an otherwise intelligent and capable person avoid doing things that will benefit them? Whether it is completing their tax submissions or taking out the garbage bins, why not just find the motivation and do it? This should be a big clue for anyone, including those experiencing it. Rather than applying nonsense labels such as “lazy” to the behavior and the person, we will serve ourselves and others better if we try to understand what underlies this problem. This is where we hope that this book will help.

Part of the answer to this riddle is that procrastination is not just one thing. From the first suggestion of a task and through the planning and action, there are multiple points where the task can stall.
